One of the most prolific goal scorers in school history, Mike Luecke was a dominant forward at California from 2006-09. He earned All-PSAC laurels three times in his career while helping the Vulcans capture the first PSAC Championship in program history. Luecke closed his career ranked second in school history with 125 points and 52 goals, plus was fifth with 21 career assists.
As a freshman, Luecke finished second on the team with five goals and 12 points despite starting only three games. The following year, he led the PSAC with 16 goals and ranked third in the league with 33 points to garner All-PSAC Second-Team laurels. He tallied seven game-winning goals in his first year as a starter while helping the Vulcans earn double-digit victories for the fourth time in five seasons, including seven wins in conference play. The PSAC transitioned to a two-division format in 2008 and the Vulcans secured a berth to the league tournament for the first time in his career. Luecke paced the newly-expanded conference with 18 goals and 48 points, plus finished second with 12 assists, to earn All-PSAC West First-Team status. The 18 goals and 48 points both rank second in single-season school history. He registered a point in 12-straight games as a junior, including a goal and two assists in the final game of the regular season at nationally-ranked Slippery Rock, as Cal secured first place in the PSAC West standings. Playing at home in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament, Luecke again tallied a goal and two assists in a victory over The Rock to help the Vulcans advance to the PSAC Championship for the fifth time in nine years. Cal then rallied from a pair of deficits in the finals to earn a 3-2 win at No. 5 Millersville to capture the first championship in program history. The Vulcans also secured their second-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2008. Cal closed the year with a 13-8-2 overall record after playing seven games against top-25 teams. As a senior, Luecke finished third in the league with 13 goals and ranked second with 32 points to repeat as an All-PSAC West First-Team honoree. The Vulcans posted 12 victories in 2009 to mark a third-straight season with double-digit wins.
Luecke completed his bachelor’s degree in general education in 2011. He is the fifth men’s soccer player selected to the Athletic Hall of Fame and holds the distinction of being the first American men’s soccer player to receive the honor.
