From the moment Corinne Vanderwal transferred to Cal U from Wenatchee Junior College in 1991, her presence on the basketball court was felt. In Vanderwal's first game as a Lady Vulcan she shot an incredible 13-13 from the floor. This type of shooting became indicative of her style of play. With a 68.4% field goal average, Vanderwal received the NCAA award for leading all divisions in shooting, and this percentage is still the second highest in NCAA history.

In addition, she led the Lady Vulcans in scoring and rebounding during her two years of play. As a junior Vanderwal averaged 14.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. This on-the-court dominance continued her final year as Vanderwal averaged 18.3 points and 9.8 rebounds a game while shooting 65.2% from the floor. She led the squad inall three of those categories and was third in steals with 48. In 1993, she received All-American honorable mention, GTE CoSida District Academic All-American honors and was the PSAC runner-up for player of the year. Aided by Vanderwal's strong inside play, the Lady Vulcans compiled consecutive 18-8 overall records during her two years.

The success that Vanderwal enjoyed was not limited to the basketball court. As well as being an Academic All-American, she graduated with honors from Cal U with a bachelor's degree in natural sciences. As a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Vanderwal returned to her home to complete a nursing degree. She now resides in Coronado, California, where she is employed as a charge nurse in San Diego.
