Steve Tselepis was an All-American two-way football player in the early 1950's and a true symbol of football's hard-nosed golden era. A punishing offensive and defensive lineman, Tselepis helped pave the way for Natali's record-breaking 1951 season. Defensively, Tselepis helped the '51 Vulcans allow an average of just 8.8 points a game; the most points that squad allowed in one game were 13. The 1952 Cal squad recorded two shutouts and included among the plethora of individual accolades Tselepis received after his career was being named to the Pittsburgh Press All-time California football team in 1960.
Tselepis remained at Cal after his playing days and served as an assistant football coach as well as a professor in the Health and Physical Education Department. When he retired in May 1992, Tselepis was the director of Cal's Sports Recreation and Intramural Department, ;which he also co-founded.
Originally from Aliquippa, PA, and a graduate of Aliquippa High School, Tselepis still resides in California and remains an invaluable supporter of Vulcan athletics. Steve and his wife, Helen, have a son Nick.
