Hall of Fame
The individual most synonymous with Cal U soccer, Dennis Laskey is originally from Dunlevy, Pennsylvania, and is a graduate from Charleroi High School. He served as head coach of the men’s soccer program from 1984-88 and 1991-2012, plus served as head coach of the women’s soccer program from 1990-2001. Laskey remains the all-time winningest coach in school history in both sports, posting a 258-223-41 mark with the men’s program and an 89-123-13 record with the women’s team.
Laskey ranks second in PSAC men's soccer history in career victories. He led the program to an appearance in the PSAC Championship five times from 2000-08 with the Vulcans capturing the title in 2008. Cal U also made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament under Laskey, advancing to the regional championship in 2011. Laskey was selected PSAC Coach of the Year three times during his career and led Cal U to at least 12 wins eight times from 1999-2011. He coached all four of the men’s soccer inductees in the Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame. Tomas Boltnar remains the conference’s all-time leader with 56 assists, plus maintains all-time school records of 62 goals and 180 points. In 2008, the Vulcans scored twice in the final 20 minutes to capture the PSAC Championship with a 3-2 victory at No. 5 Millersville. Goalkeeper Derek Yobbi was named PSAC Tournament MVP after being selected the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2007.
The initial coach of the women’s soccer team, Laskey led the Vulcans to 12 wins in the program’s third year in 1992. He coached three women’s soccer players that have been inducted into the Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame. Sherry Valera was the first player in school history to eclipse 100 career points and held the all-time school record for goals and points for over a decade.
