Hall of Fame
Bill Seidel came to California State College from Altoona and Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He was a linebacker for the Vulcans from 1977-80 and performed with a number of the members of the Cal U Hall of Fame including Rob Dindak. Seidel, a very active and athletic linebacker, was known for his hard hits and his take-no-prisoners style of play. Along with Steve Socrates, they were a formidable duo roaming behind a great group of down linemen.
During the 1980 season, Seidel and the Vulcans defeated the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles 10-7 on Homecoming Day.
Bill holds Cal’s single season tackles record with 202 (1980), 79 solo, and over 600 tackles for his career, also a career record for the Vulcans. He set and then broke single season tackle records three straight seasons.
A four-year starter at Cal under head coach Hal Hunter, he was an All-Conference player for four years and was named All-District and ECAC Player of the Week on a number of occasions over his illustrious career.
Seidel was certainly a coach Haley (Cal’s linebacker and strength coach in 1980) type of player...the ball stops here.
Seidel lives in Germantown, Maryland, with his wife Barbara and their children Jamie, Sean, Nicholas and Aubrey. Bill is a member of the Montgomery County Police Department, a member of the F.O.P., and he helped coach his oldest son's football team.
