The California (PA) Sports Information Office has partnered with CUTV to recognize a series of 'Vulcans Classics' to highlight memorable victories and championships by Cal U that were covered by the student television organization.
Fans can view many of these classics in their entirety with some providing reflections from CUTV announcers that covered the memorable contests. A preview and/or recap of the game will also be available, as well as links to a full recap, box score and photo gallery when available.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
#16 Kutztown v. #10 Cal U (PSAC Tournament) – March 5, 1988 – Hamer Hall
The Vulcans were making their third appearance in the PSAC Championship in four years with their last league title being in 1985. Cal U claimed the top seed from the PSAC West with an 11-1 record and entered play with a 23-5 overall mark. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears were the top team from the PSAC East and were making their first-ever appearance in the tournament finals.
#11 Pace, #4 Philadelphia Textiles [now Jefferon] v. #1 Cal U (NCAA East Region Tournament) – 1992 – Hamer Hall
The Vulcans entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 team in the country behind a 26-game winning streak. Cal U captured its first PSAC Championship since 1988 and held a perfect 17-0 record at Hamer Hall. Pace featured the top-ranked scoring defense in the country and was making the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Philadelphia Textiles was making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in four years after winning the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Championship. The program featured a two-time NABC All-American in Randy Stover and earned an 83-70 win in the regional semifinals over Saint Rose.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
#5 Glenville State v. #3 Cal U (NCAA Tournament) – March 15, 2004 – Hamer Hall
The Vulcans and Pioneers were meeting in the finals of the NCAA East Region Tournament for the third-straight year with the home team winning each of the previous two meetings. Cal U and Glenville State were both featured in the top five of the WBCA Top 25 poll. The Vulcans recently captured their third-straight PSAC Championship, while the Pioneers suffered a one-point loss in the WVIAC Championship after winning the league title in both 2002 and 2003.
Gannon v. #6 Cal U (NCAA Tournament) - March 16, 2009 – Hamer Hall
The Vulcans earned the top seed for the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the regional final following a pair of victories by a combined 57 points. Guard Brooque Williams entered the tournament averaging a double-double with 22.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, both of which ranked among the top 15 in the country. Crystal Andrews and Williams were both featured among the top 10 in the country in steals and combined for 7.5 steals per game. In its first season as members of the PSAC, Gannon received the third seed in the tournament and advanced with a 69-65 overtime win over IUP in the regional semifinals after the Crimson Hawks tied the game at the end of regulation. The Lady Knights featured a balanced scoring offense with four players averaging over 11 points per game and ranked sixth in the country in field-goal percentage.
FOOTBALL
#17 Edinboro v. Cal U – Oct. 8, 2005 – Adamson Stadium
The Vulcans faced the Fighting Scots on Homecoming with Edinboro boasting the top-ranked total defense and rushing defense in the country. The Fighting Scots were led by four-year starting quarterback Justin Bouch and freshman running back Ulysee Davis. The Vulcans featured a dynamic All-American running back in Antoine Bagwell, who ranked among the top 10 in NCAA Division II in rushing yards, all-purpose yards and points per game. Edinboro entered play having won 12 of the last 14 games in the series.
Shepherd v. #6 Cal U (NCAA Playoffs) – Dec. 1, 2007 – Adamson Stadium
The Vulcans were making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Playoffs following an undefeated regular season. Meanwhile, the Rams captured the WVIAC Championship for the fourth-consecutive season and were playing in the regional final for a second-straight year. Cal U entered the contest ranked first in NCAA Division II in rushing defense, total defense and scoring defense. Shepherd boasted the top rusher in the country in Dervon Wallace at nearly 190 rushing yards per game.
MEN'S SOCCER
The Vulcans secured their first appearance in the league tournament since 2005 on the final day of the regular season with a road win over The Rock. Cal U earned the first seed in the PSAC West by virtue of a 4-3-1 league mark and Slippery Rock finished 4-4 in divisional play. The contest featured a pair of dynamic forwards in Mike Luecke of Cal U and Jeremy Deighton of Slippery Rock. Luecke led the league with 17 goals during the regular season and ranked No. 12 in the country with 2.32 points per game, while Deighton tallied 14 goals in the regular season and was later named the 2008 PSAC West Athlete of the Year.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Vulcans were making a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and earned hosting rights, plus a first-round bye, as the second seed in the Atlantic Region. Meanwhile, The Rock entered on a 14-game unbeaten streak and were in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five years. Cal U featured seven All-PSAC selections, including the top goal scorer in the league, and had held opponents without a goal for over five games. Slippery Rock scored nine goals in its previous five games following a 3-1 victory versus West Virginia Wesleyan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
SOFTBALL
The Vulcans entered the NCAA Tournament on a 27-game winning streak before losing their opening game of the three-team regional hosted at Lilley Field. Cal U featured 10 All-PSAC West selections with first baseman Jen Wagner being chosen the PSAC West Athlete of the Year, while pitcher Danielle Penner boasted a 23-2 record and a 0.57 ERA. The Huskies were the national runner-up in 1995 and entered the tournament having won five of the last six regional championships. Bloomsburg was led by the tandem of two-time All-American shortstop Jen Lefever and pitcher Christie Kittle, who posted a 30-10 record as a freshman.
TRACK & FIELD
Cal U finishes eighth in the men's team standings behind victories by Brad Rager in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. He also was a member of the 4x100-meter relay that set a then-school record and earned All-PSAC status. The top individual finisher for the Vulcans on the women's side was Fallon Allensworth in the high jump.
VOLLEYBALL
The Vulcans were playing in the PSAC Championship for the third-straight year and entered play on a 30-match winning streak. Cal U went undefeated in divisional play during the regular season to earn the top seed in the PSAC West. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles were looking to capture their first conference title since 1988 after upsetting host Shippensburg, the top seed from the PSAC East, in the tournament semifinals. Cal U and Clarion entered the PSAC Tournament slotted first and second, respectively, in the NCAA Atlantic regional rankings.
