SPOTLIGHT

#16 Kutztown v. #10 Cal U (PSAC Tournament) – March 5, 1988 – Hamer Hall
The Vulcans were making their third appearance in the PSAC Championship in four years with their last league title being in 1985. Cal U claimed the top seed from the PSAC West with an 11-1 record and entered play with a 23-5 overall mark. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears were the top team from the PSAC East and were making their first-ever appearance in the tournament finals.

 


Cal U 73, Kutztown 64
The Vulcans held a four-point lead at halftime before capturing the PSAC Championship with a 73-64 win over Kutztown. Joe Miller led all players with 24 points and 13 rebounds in the victory. Cal U eventually placed second at the NCAA regional tournament and set a then-school record with 25 victories, which remained until 1992 when the Vulcans advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
