#17 Edinboro v. Cal U – Oct. 8, 2005 – Adamson Stadium
The Vulcans faced the Fighting Scots on Homecoming with Edinboro boasting the top-ranked total defense and rushing defense in the country. The Fighting Scots were led by four-year starting quarterback Justin Bouch and freshman running back Ulysee Davis. The Vulcans featured a dynamic All-American running back in Antoine Bagwell, who ranked among the top 10 in NCAA Division II in rushing yards, all-purpose yards and points per game. Edinboro entered play having won 12 of the last 14 games in the series.

The Vulcans claimed their first win against a nationally-ranked opponent since 2001. Edinboro recorded a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown on the opening drive of the game and held a 26-22 lead early in the fourth quarter. Cal U then responded with touchdowns on its next two drives while defensive back Antwjuan Cox halted back-to-back Edinboro drives inside the red zone with interceptions. Bagwell finished with 109 rushing yards, 53 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Joe Ruggiero posted 294 passing yards and three touchdowns on 24-of-35 attempts.
