Cal finishes No. 14 at regional championships

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 9) – The Vulcans closed the season on Saturday morning by competing at the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Lock Haven.

The California (PA) women's cross country team finished No. 14 in the team standings with 406 points led by a pair of top-30 runners. Davis & Elkins claimed the regional championship with 93 points after being anchored by a trio of top-15 finishes. Slippery Rock placed second at the race with 100 points, led by the individual champion, and East Stroudsburg finished third with 114 points. Two-time, defending-regional champion Charleston (WV) totaled 150 points and ranked fourth in the team standings.

Senior Madeline Curtis and sophomore Rosalyn Perozzi registered back-to-back finishes in the top 30 on Saturday. Curtis crossed the finish line in 22 minutes, 12.6 seconds to place 29th overall and Perozzi posted a time of 22.12.7 to finish in 30th place. Curtis finished among the top 30 at the regional championships for a consecutive year, while Perozzi set a personal record for a six-kilometer course after placing outside the top 100 at the event as a freshman last season.

Sophomore Gabriella Fralin tallied a time of 23:22.7 to finish in 93rd place, while senior Macayle Wade placed 136th overall with a time of 24:49.2. Classmate Makaila Wade rounded out the team scorers after posting a time of 25:37.6 to finish in 146th place.

Senior Anna Igims of Slippery Rock earned the individual title on Saturday by seven seconds with a time of 20:35.4.
