Vulcans slotted No. 13 in preseason poll

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Aug. 20) – The California (PA) women's cross country team was picked to finish No. 13 in the preseason Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) poll announced on Wednesday by the league office.

The Vulcans placed No. 13 at the league meet last fall before finishing No. 14 at the NCAA Regional Championships in a field with entries from two conferences.

Defending-PSAC Champion Slippery Rock was the preseason favorite after receiving 10 first-place votes. The Rock must replace Anna Igims after she placed first at both the conference and regional championships. East Stroudsburg received six first-place votes and was positioned second after its third-place finish at the regional championship last fall. Shippensburg received the remaining first-place vote and ranked third with Kutztown and Bloomsburg completing the top five in the poll.

California opens the year on Sept. 5 at the Race in the Park hosted by Gannon at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview, Pennsylvania.
