CALIFORNIA (Sept. 1) – Sophomores
Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) and
Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton), along with freshman
Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School), each scored a pair of goals on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 6 Vulcans earned a 6-0 victory against Charleston (W.Va.) at the Phillipsburg Soccer Complex.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 2-0 this season. The Vulcans extended their undefeated streak in the regular season to 22 games (20-0-2) and have now won all 14 games at the Phillipsburg Soccer Complex since it opened last season. Meanwhile, Charleston falls to 0-2 this year.
The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when McCann scored her first career goal off a feed from sophomore
Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary). Cal U added to its lead at the 17:43-mark when Crockett scored off an assist from junior
Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel).
McCann collected her second goal of the game in the 57th minute following a pass from sophomore
Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), her third assist of the season. Crockett registered her third career multi-goal game at the 69:41-mark (unassisted) before Henderson scored her first two career goals in the final 16 minutes of the game.
Sophomore
Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) posted her second-straight shutout, making one save on Saturday. Golden Eagles' freshman Courtney Budd collected nine saves in the losing effort.
The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, when they travel to face West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W.Va., at 7 p.m.
