Cal U earns regular-season title, 2-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 27) – Sophomore Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) scored a pair of goals on Saturday evening, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team collected a 2-0 victory at Shippensburg to earn a second-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular-season title.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 14-3-1 overall behind an 11-2-1 mark in league action. Cal U entered the day tied for first place in the league standings with West Chester, who suffered a loss in its final regular-season game of the year. Meanwhile, Shippensburg finished the year with a 6-9-3 overall record and a 4-8-2 mark in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the 79th minute when Henderson scored off a pass from senior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell). The Raiders evened the game at the 83:35-mark before the Vulcans reclaimed the lead in less than 90 seconds when Henderson tallied her team-leading 11th goal of the season (unassisted).

Sophomore Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) made three saves on Saturday, while Shippensburg junior Shelbie Rackley posted seven saves in the losing effort.

The Vulcans open play in next week's PSAC Tournament when they host IUP in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. Cal U earned a 4-0 victory over IUP earlier this year and have posted a 5-0-2 mark against the Crimson Hawks since the 2008 season.
