No. 4 Women's Soccer routs D&E, 8-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 12) – Seven different players scored goals on Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 4 Vulcans recorded an 8-0 win over Davis & Elkins in non-conference play at the new Soccer Facility.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 10-0-2 overall behind a 7-0-0 mark at home. In their last two meetings, the Vulcans have out-scored the Senators by a 15-0 margin. Meanwhile, Davis & Elkins drop to 4-6-1 this season.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored her 10th goal of the season off assists from junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) and senior Sara Di Benedetto (Maple, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic). Senior Chaning Wimer (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) tallied her first goal of the year at the 20:41-mark off a feed from Di Benedetto to expand the lead to 2-0.

Sophomore Kelsey Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), freshman Megan Politowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and senior Kristen Orrett (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering)  each added goals within a span of five-plus minutes to help Cal U take a 5-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Work scored her team-leading 14th goal of the year (unassisted) in the 57th minute. Freshman Chelsea Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) recorded a pair of goals off assists from senior Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax) in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Senior Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) and redshirt sophomore Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) combined for the shutout on Wednesday. Senators' Ashley Winkelspecht finished with 11 saves in 90 minutes of action.

Cal U out-shot Davis & Elkins by a 29-4 margin, including a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal, and finished with a 12-1 edge on corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to conference play this weekend when they host Clarion on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the new Soccer Facility, starting at 7 p.m.
