No. 3 Cal U claims shutout at Mercyhurst, 2-0

ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 1) – Senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) each tallied goals on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 3 Vulcans claimed a 2-0 victory at Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team remains unbeaten this season at 7-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in league play. Meanwhile, Mercyhurst drops to 5-4-1 this year with a 2-4-1 in conference action.

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when Work posted her team-leading 10th goal of the season off an assist from Robinson. Following halftime, Cal U added to its lead at the 60:02-mark when Robinson recorded a goal, her seventh of the year, off a feed from sophomore Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown).

Senior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) finished with her second-straight shutout after making three saves on Saturday. The Lakers' Rachel Griepsma also made three saves in the losing effort.

For the game, Cal U out-shot Mercyhurst by a 14-9 margin and both teams attempted four corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action on Monday, Oct. 3, when they travel to face IUP at 4 p.m.
