Evans collects league honor for third time

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 13) – Behind five multi-hit games last week, California (PA) senior outfielder Connor Evans was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week for the third time this season on Monday afternoon.

Evans posted a .545 average (12-for-22), recorded a 1.265 OPS and scored nine runs over five games last week, as the Vulcans earned a four-game sweep over Clarion in divisional play. On Thursday, he tallied a pair of singles and split time between right field and center field while playing at PNC Park in Pittsburgh against Point Park. Evans then went a combined 4-for-7 with three runs scored and two hit by pitches on Friday in a home doubleheader sweep of the Golden Eagles. In Game 2, the Hickory product delivered a walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning after scoring the game-tying run in the seventh. On Saturday, Evans recorded six hits, four RBI, six runs scored and one steal in a road sweep of Clarion.

A 6-foot-7 senior, Evans ranks third in the PSAC with a .448 average (56-for-125) and sits sixth with a .688 slugging percentage. He leads the league with 14 doubles with three weeks remaining in the regular season, while also totaling 30 RBI and 32 runs scored. Evans currently boasts an 18-game hitting streak, the longest since a 20-game streak by Jacob McCaskey in 2022.

Evans is the first Cal player to garner PSAC West Athlete of the Week accolades three times in a season since 2019.

The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14, when they host Wheeling for a nine-inning game at EQT Park in Washington, Pennsylvania, starting at 1 p.m.
