Evans garners weekly league accolades

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Feb. 24) – Behind a blistering start to the season, California (PA) senior outfielder Connor Evans was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Evans went a combined 10-for-12 with five extra-base hits, six RBI and seven runs scored, as the Vulcans swept a three-game home series against Ohio Dominican at EQT Park to open the year. He recorded an .846 on-base percentage and a 1.500 slugging percentage for a staggering 2.346 OPS while starting all three games in right field. On Thursday, Evans reached base four times (single, double, triple, hit by pitch), drove in two runs, scored two runs and stole one base in a 15-10 victory over the Panthers. The Hickory product then tallied three hits with a two-run homer and two runs scored in a 7-2 win in Game 1 on Friday. Evans closed the series by collecting four hits with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in a 12-6 victory in Game 2 against ODU.

A 6-foot-7 senior, Evans hit at a .330 clip (33-for-100) last year with 20 RBI and 20 runs scored while starting 28 games primarily between right field and designated hitter. He started his collegiate career at Chestnut Hill in 2022 and finished sixth in NCAA Division II with a .440 average (66-for-150) before transferring to Kennesaw State (GA), a NCAA Division I program. Evans played 15 games with the Owls in 2023 before obtaining a medical redshirt the following spring.

The Vulcans return to action with four games this weekend at the Atlantic Region Crossover, starting on Friday, Feb. 27, against Bloomsburg at Kendrick Family Ballpark in Morgantown, West Virginia, at 11 a.m.
