Weiseman receives weekly conference laurels

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 22) – Behind an impressive overall performance in five matches, California (PA) freshman Olivia Weiseman was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Weiseman averaged 4.00 kills, 4.36 points and 4.39 digs per set last week, as the Vulcans played five matches against Mountain East Conference (MEC) programs – including a pair of NCAA Tournament programs from 2024. She registered four kill/dig double-doubles while hitting at a .255 clip. Weiseman tallied 17 kills on a .262 hitting percentage, 16 digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win at Point Park on Tuesday. Following the team's first loss this year on Friday, the Ohio native posted 10 kills on a .345 clip and 15 digs in a 3-0 win over defending-MEC Champion West Virginia State. Weiseman finished with 15 kills and 14 digs the following morning against MEC powerhouse Wheeling before setting a career high with 21 kills on a .327 hitting percentage, plus 17 digs and two service aces, in a 3-1 victory versus Fairmont State.

A 5-foot-10 freshman, Weiseman ranks among the top 20 in NCAA Division II with 151 total kills this season. She also sits among the top six in the league with both 3.78 kills per set and 4.29 points per set.

Weiseman became the program's first recipient of the PSAC West Athlete of the Week honor since October 2021. Additionally, she is the first freshman to collect overall weekly league laurels since the 2019 campaign when the conference was utilizing a four-team division format.

The Vulcans make their home debut tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they face Glenville State – another MEC program – at the Convocation Center, starting at 6 p.m.
