Weiseman named Regional Freshman of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 3) – Standout Olivia Weiseman was selected the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year and earned first-team all-region honors on Wednesday morning.

Weiseman joins former three-time AVCA All-American Renata Silva as the only players in program history to be named Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year. She also becomes the program's first AVCA first-team all-region honoree since 2016.

A native of Ohio, Weiseman helped the Vulcans record a 16-win improvement this fall and finish just one match shy of qualifying for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament just a year after going winless in league play. Cal also appeared in the NCAA Atlantic regional rankings prior to the final week of the regular season for the first time since 2019.

Weiseman ranks among the top 10 in the Atlantic Region, which features 38 teams across three conferences, with 356 total kills, 1,144 total attacks and 10.21 attacks per set prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament this week. She was one of only two players in the PSAC to rank among the top 15 in the league in both kills per set and digs per set this fall. Weiseman recorded 18 double-doubles this fall, the most by a Cal player since Megan Litoborski in 2015.

Last month, Weiseman became the first rookie in program history to be voted the PSAC West Freshman of the Year while also becoming the program's first selection to the All-PSAC West First-Team in seven years.
