LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 10) – After a standout debut season, California (PA) freshman
Olivia Weiseman received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention on Wednesday morning.
Weiseman became just the fifth player in program history to earn All-America recognition from the organization and the first since Joanna Nist and Renata Silva – both Athletic Hall of Fame inductees – accomplished the feat in 2009. She was one of only nine freshmen in NCAA Division II to receive All-America honors this fall, including one of three from the Atlantic Region.
Last week, Weiseman was named the AVCA Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year – a distinction previously only achieved by Silva in 2006 – while also being honored as an AVCA first-team all-region selection. The Ohio native became the first player in program history to be voted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Freshman of the Year since the award's inception in 1993 and was the program's first All-PSAC West First-Team honoree in seven seasons.
Weiseman ranked among the top 10 in the PSAC with 3.18 kills per set and 3.59 digs per set. Entering the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, she stands seventh in the league with 356 total kills and third with 1,144 total attacks. Weiseman was one of just 20 players in the country to record multiple triple-doubles this year, achieving both in the same weekend late in the regular season.
A 5-foot-10 freshman, Weiseman played a pivotal role in the Vulcans posting a 16-win improvement this fall. The Vulcans earned six victories in league play, highlighted by a season sweep over Clarion for the first time since 2016 and a home win against Gannon, which repeated as Atlantic Region Champions last weekend.
