Vulcans fall at Pitt-Johnstown in final match

California finishes fifth in PSAC West standings; Stephenson, Weiseman register 10 kills

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 15) – Needing a win to qualify for the league tournament, the California (PA) volleyball team closed the season with a 3-0 loss (25-19, 25-16, 26-24) at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

NOTES
• The Vulcans finished the year with a 19-11 overall record behind a 6-8 mark in league action.
• Cal entered the final day of the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the PSAC West standings.
• Junior Sarah Stephenson and freshman Olivia Weiseman tied for the team lead with 10 kills.
• Weiseman added 16 assists for her 18th double-double of the season, including her fourth kill/assist double-double.
• Senior Adrianna Favata collected 13 assists in the match.
• Senior Caroline Mercer paced the team with 18 digs, while classmate Tayla Pascoe finished with 12 digs.
• In the opening set, UPJ started on a 10-3 run and led wire-to-wire in a 25-19 victory.
• The Mountain Cats began the second set with a 9-1 surge and closed on an 8-4 rally to secure a 25-16 win.
• Cal nearly forced a fourth set before UPJ won the final five points while facing set point to take the third set, 26-24.
• The third set featured nine ties and four lead changes.
• With the win, UPJ secured a berth in the PSAC Tournament and claimed the third seed via tiebreaker with Seton Hill.

FINAL STANDINGS
• The Vulcans finished fifth in the PSAC West standings with a 6-8 divisional record.
• Cal posted its most overall wins since the 2018 campaign and the six league victories nearly match the program's win total in PSAC West play over the previous three seasons combined.
