Olivia Weiseman was voted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Freshman of the Year and was one of two Vulcans selected to the All-PSAC West Teams on Thursday afternoon.
Weiseman was chosen to the All-PSAC West First-Team, while junior
Sarah Stephenson was tabbed to the All-PSAC West Second. Team. Cal featured multiple All-PSAC West selections for only the third time since 2018 with Weiseman becoming the first first-team honoree in seven years.
A native of Ohio, Weiseman is the first player to be lauded as the Freshman of the Year since the inception of the award in 1993. She was the lone freshman chosen to the All-PSAC West Teams. Weiseman led the team and ranked 10th in the league with 3.18 kills per set, while her 356 total kills stood fifth-most in the conference. She also tallied 402 total digs to rank second on the team and her 3.59 digs per set placed her among the top 15 in the PSAC. Weiseman registered 18 double-doubles this fall, including a pair of triple-doubles in the final weeks of the season.
Stephenson registered a breakout junior campaign, shattering career highs in virtually every category. She ranked among the top 15 in the league with 3.01 kills per set and totaled 313 kills after entering the year with fewer than 200 career kills. Additionally, she posted a .256 hitting percentage – more than a .100-point improvement over her career average – and totaled 59 blocks, surpassing her previous career total.
The Vulcans finished the year with a 19-11 overall record and ranked fifth in the PSAC West standings with a 6-8 mark in league play.
