MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (May 10) – Senior
Beyoncé Kelly improved her NCAA provisional standard in the high jump and junior
Jing McCann broke her own school record in the hammer throw on Friday at the First Chance hosted by Mount Olive.
Kelly won the event after clearing a season-best height of 1.73 meters (5-8.0 feet) on her second attempt at the mark. She matched the second-best outdoor height of her collegiate career while in North Carolina. Kelly is now tied for No. 10 on the national performance list in the high jump this spring.
McCann posted a heave of 52.08 meters (170-10.0 feet) to place third in the hammer throw on Friday. She broke her school record in the event for the third-consecutive week, eclipsing the previous distance of 51.51 meters (169.0 feet) set last week at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. McCann finished just five-tenths of a meter shy of reaching the NCAA provisional mark in the event for the first time in her career.
Senior
Kat Henderson also competed in the high jump in North Carolina, finishing with a mark of 1.52 meters (4-11.75 feet) on her first attempt at the height.
Henderson and McCann are slated to compete again tomorrow, Saturday, May 11, in Mount Olive, North Carolina, as the Trojans will host the Final Qualifier with events starting at 11 a.m.
