Etienne, DeFruscio break records at home meet

CALIFORNIA (March 21) – Senior Alice Etienne broke the school record in both the long jump and triple jump, while freshman Abigail DeFruscio set the school record in the javelin throw, as the Vulcans hosted the Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

RECORDS/NCAA STANDARDS
• Etienne also reached the NCAA provisional standards in both the long jump and triple jump at Roadman Park.
• She posted a mark of 5.94 meters (19-6.0 feet) in the long jump on her final attempt.
• Etienne eclipsed the previous record of 5.87 meters (19-3.25) set by Imani Shell in the 2013 season.
• The two-time league champion tallied a distance of 12.16 meters (39-10.75 feet) on her fourth attempt in the triple jump.
• Etienne broke the school record of 12.07 meters (39-7.25 feet) set by Kailah Holmes at the 2018 PSAC Championships.
• DeFruscio posted a heave of 37.91 meters (124-4.0 feet) to eclipse the previous mark of 120-7.0 feet, which had been held for two decades by Emily Ford.
• Sophomore Loreena Manser reached the NCAA provisional mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.96 seconds.

PSAC STANDARDS
• Manser also reached the PSAC-qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 11.84 seconds.
• In addition to Manser, sophomore Riley Tighe and freshman Amanda Mercurius posed league-qualifying times in the 100 meters.
• Tighe finished in 12.38 seconds, while Mercurius registered a time of 12.49 seconds.
• Mercurius also reached the standard in the 200 meters with a time of 25.19 seconds.
• Junior Rebekah Priano qualified for the league championships in the 400-meter run after rounding the track in 59.16 seconds, while classmate Rosalyn Perozzi posted a time of 4:46.37 in the 1,500-meter run to reach the conference standard.
• Fellow junior Emily Mahle cleared 1.60 meters (5-3.0 feet) in the high jump and sophomore Anna Schuessler posted a height of 3.40 meters (11-1.75 feet) in the pole vault.
• Manser also reached the conference mark in the long jump with a distance of 5.70 meters (18-8.5 feet).
• Senior Jing McCann qualified for the league meet in the hammer throw with a heave of 46.30 meters (151-11.0 feet).
