Alice Etienne and sophomore
Loreena Manser both earned Second-Team All-America honors in the long jump on Friday afternoon during the opening day of the NCAA Championships.
Etienne and Manser garnered All-America status while making their collegiate debuts at the NCAA Championships. The duo become the program's first-ever All-Americans in the long jump. Cal has now boasted a combined seven indoor All-Americans since 2002.
A 5-foot-5 senior, Etienne placed No. 12 on Friday with a mark of 5.81 (19-0.75 feet) on her third attempt. Manser posted a distance of 5.77 (18-11.25 feet) on her final attempt to finish No. 14 overall.
Minnesota State senior Miranda Lauvstad, a native of Norway, captured the national title in the event with a leap of 6.34 meters (20-9.75 feet) on multiple attempts. She entered the weekend as top seed in the long jump with a distance of 6.35 meters (20-10.0 feet).
Etienne continues competition at the NCAA Championships tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, with the triple jump scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
