SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (May 12) – Senior
Beyoncé Kelly (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical) completed the season sweep in the high jump on Friday afternoon and classmate
Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) broke her own all-time meet record in the 100-meter dash on the second day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
Kelly captured the league title in the high jump during both the indoor and outdoor campaign in 2023 after placing second in the event twice last season. She earned the outdoor conference title on Friday by clearing 1.69 meters (5-6.5 feet) on her first attempt at the height. Kelly opened the event at 1.61 meters (5-3.25) before progressing to 1.66 meters (5-5.25 feet) and she cleared both marks on the first attempt. The Maryland native is the program's first field standout to sweep league titles in an event in recent program history (since 2008). Kelly is tied for seventh on the national performance list this season in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters (5-8.0 feet) set last month at Bucknell.
Franklin shattered her championship record set last year during the preliminaries of the 100 meters. She cruised to the win in the event with the second-fastest time of her career at 11.28 seconds, which topped the field on Friday by a staggering 0.51 seconds. Franklin eclipsed her previous meet record in the 100 meters by a whooping 0.38 seconds. The Philadelphia native also won the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash at Slippery Rock with a wind-aided time of 23.21 seconds, which prevented her from resetting her conference record from last year. Franklin paced the preliminary field on Friday in the event by a dominating 0.81 seconds despite three of the four heats benefiting from the wind.
The Vulcans rank eighth in the team standings with 15 points after seven events at the league championships. Host Slippery Rock leads the team standings with 48.5 points over two days, while Millersville ranks second with 40 points and Edinboro is in third place with 34 points.
