WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 10) – Sophomore
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) claimed the individual title and the California (PA) men's cross country team won the invitational title while opening the season on Saturday morning at the Daemen Alumni Invitational.
The Vulcans had all five scorers finish in the top eight, as they totaled 20 points in the eight-kilometer event at Bassett Park. The host Wildcats ranked second in the team standings with 43 points. The meet featured seven teams with Cal being the only team competing in the event that was from outside of New York.
Zimmerman won the first individual title of his career on Saturday. He paced the 59-runner field with a time of 26 minutes, 52.8 seconds. Zimmerman earned All-PSAC Second-Team honors last fall after finishing 24th overall at the league championships.

Jonathan Thrush (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) placed second overall by clocking in at 27:15.5 while competing for the first time since March 2021. Senior
Mason Jobe (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) finished in fourth place with a time of 27:22.6 and junior
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) crossed the finish line in fifth place at 27:59.4. Freshman
George Boutiller (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) placed eighth overall in his college debut with a time of 28:36.4.
Cal is next scheduled to compete on Oct. 1 at the Live in Lou Classic held in Louisville, Kentucky.
