LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (June 15) – California University of Pennsylvania senior
Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was selected to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Spring Top 10 on Wednesday afternoon announced the league office.
The PSAC Top 10 Awards, which are selected by the league's sports information directors, recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). The sports eligible for consider for the Spring Top 10 Awards are baseball, men's and women's golf, lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track & field.
Franklin was chosen to the PSAC Top 10 for the second time this year, as she previously received the accolade following the indoor campaign. The Philadelphia native is the first Cal U student-athlete to be tabbed to the PSAC Top 10 multiple times in the same season since Morgan Huegel (men's track & field) and Alex Zanella (women's track & field) both accomplished the feat during the 2015-16 academic year.
A 5-foot-10 senior, Franklin continues to garner post-season laurels following a terrific outdoor campaign. She recently was named both the PSAC Track Athlete of the Year and U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year after previously garnering both accolades after the indoor season. Additionally, Franklin is eligible for the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Teams that will be announced next week.
Franklin won a trio of league titles at the PSAC Championships in May before earning All-America status in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Championships three weeks ago. She broke a pair of conference championship records that stood for over 35 years while repeating as the champion in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Franklin also helped the 4x400-meter relay capture a league title for the second time in three years.
A product of Archbishop John Carroll, Franklin broke the outdoor school record in both the 100 and 200 meters this spring while boasting the fastest time in the Atlantic Region in each event. She set the school record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.58 seconds while at West Virginia in April. Franklin later broke the school and championship record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.92 seconds during the preliminaries of the PSAC Championships.
Franklin recently completed her bachelor's degree in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine and a minor in chemistry while maintaining a 3.64 cumulative GPA.
All Top 10 Award winners from each season – fall, winter, spring – are eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, which are given to one male and one female candidate.
