Franklin repeats as recipient of weekly honor

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 26) – After another record-setting weekend, California University of Pennsylvania senior Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) repeated as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin broke the school record in the 100-meter dash and won a pair of individual events with NCAA qualifying marks over the weekend at the Mountaineer Showcase hosted by West Virginia. In the preliminaries, she registered a wind-aided time of 11.55 seconds that would have eclipsed the all-time PSAC record that has stood for two decades. Franklin then earned the victory in the finals with a staggering time of 11.58 seconds that was below the wind-threshold for records. The mark eclipsed her school record set last April at Shippensburg by seven-hundredths of a second. The Archbishop John Carroll product also captured the win in the 200-meter dash by almost one full second with a time of 24.19 seconds, which is the second-fastest of her career.

Additionally, Franklin was a member of both relays that established season-best times over the weekend at WVU. She was the anchor leg on the 4x100-meter relay that posted a time of 47.94 seconds to rank third-best in the PSAC this season. Franklin also was the second leg on the 4x400-meter relay that won the event with the second-fastest time in the league at 3 minutes, 58.70 seconds.

Franklin ranks eighth overall on the national performance list this spring in the 100 meters with the time of 11.55 seconds. She also sits among the top 20 nationally in the 200 meters with her record time of 24.05 seconds, which was set last week at Bucknell. Franklin boasts the fastest time in the 100 meters this spring by any student-athlete attending college in the state of Pennsylvania, regardless of division or affiliation.

A native of Philadelphia, Franklin has received PSAC Track Athlete of the Week three times in six weeks during the outdoor season. Earlier today, she was selected to the PSAC Winter Top 10 which recognizes student-athletes with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) that also excelled athletically during their season.

Franklin is set to compete at the 126th running of the Penn Relays in the 100 meters, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay on Friday, April 29.
