Franklin collects weekly league accolade

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Dec. 5) – Following her record-setting performance over the weekend, California (PA) senior Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Franklin broke her own all-time league record in the 60-meter dash on Friday while opening the indoor season at the Youngstown State Icebreaker. She placed second in the finals of the 60 meters with a record time of 7.40 seconds after tying the mark in the preliminaries with a time of 7.43 seconds. Franklin finished behind only Youngstown State senior Jahniya Bowers, who won Horizon League titles in the both the 60 meters and 200-meter dash last winter. The Philadelphia native also finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.98 seconds while in Ohio on Friday.

A three-time All-American, Franklin reached the NCAA qualifying mark in the 60 meters while at YSU and ranks third on the national performance list this season with time of 7.40 seconds. She also sits second on the PSAC performance list in the 200 meters despite being the only entry among the top six to not compete on a converted track this weekend.

Franklin earned the weekly conference honor for the seventh time in her career after garnering the accolade four times last spring.

The Vulcans are idle for seven weeks before resuming competition on Jan. 21 at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
