Kelly Lynch (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) was chosen the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Lynch led the team with 3.80 digs per set over the weekend, as Cal U played four in-region opponents while hosting 12 matches at annual Vulcan Invitational. She also totaled a combined 24 assists and four service aces, plus was named to the Vulcan Invitational All-Tournament Team. Lynch opened the tournament by posting 12 digs, seven assists and two aces in a 3-1 loss on Thursday against Shippensburg, which qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Ohio native then registered 21 digs and eight assists on Friday in a 3-1 victory over Frostburg State before totaling 11 digs and five assists in a 3-0 loss to Bloomsburg later that day. Lynch closed the weekend with 13 digs and four assists in a 3-1 loss versus West Liberty on Saturday.
In her first season as the primary libero, Lynch leads the team with 4.21 digs per set and has posted at least 11 digs in all eight matches.
Cal U has featured the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week in each of the initial two weeks of the season.
The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 15, by facing West Virginia Wesleyan at the Convocation Center with play beginning at 7 p.m.
