Franklin receives weekly league accolade

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 20) – Following a pair of individual victories over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania junior Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin won both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash while competing at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock on Friday. She posted the victory in the 200 meters for the first time this season with a wind-aided time of 25.11 seconds, which was over one full second faster than the field. Franklin also won the 100 meters for the fourth time this spring on Friday by nearly two-tenths of a second with a time of 12.08 seconds, as the next three sprinters were from Youngstown State.

A native of Philadelphia, Franklin boasts the fastest time in the PSAC this spring in the 100 meters by six-hundredths of a second. She posted a season-best and wind-aided time of 11.95 seconds in the event two weeks ago while at Slippery Rock. Franklin established her season-best mark in the 200 meters over the weekend and now ranks second on the league's performance list.

Franklin received the weekly league honor for the first time in her career, as the Vulcans featured the recipient of the award for the first time since May 2019. She was a three-time PSAC Champion at the league's 2019 indoor championships and was also named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the event.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, April 24, at the 16th Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg.
