Cal U posts shutout at Lock Haven, 2-0

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Vulcans scored a goal in each half on Friday night to claim a 2-0 shutout victory at Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 5-5-1 overall with a 2-1-1 mark in league action. Meanwhile, Lock Haven drops to 4-6 this season behind a 2-3 record in conference play.

The Vulcans scored their first goal in the 10th minute when junior Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year following a long cross from freshman Cory Kuzilla (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek). Kyei, who has already eclipsed his goal total from last season, is now tied for second in the PSAC in goals and ranks third in the league with 18 points.

Cal U added an insurance goal at the 76:30-mark when sophomore Lubos Kubik (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Roosevelt (Iowa)) tallied his first goal of the season following a pass from freshman Elliot Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley).

Junior goalkeeper Mitch Mack (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) collected two saves to post his first shutout of the year. The Vulcans finished with a 6-5 shot advantage after attempting just one shot in the first half – Kyei's goal.

Cal U continues its weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12, when it travels to play Bloomsburg at 7:30 p.m.
