WINDBER, Pa. (Sept. 23) – The California (PA) men's soccer team scored twice within a five-minute span in the second half and recorded its first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday afternoon.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (2-3-3, 1-0) snapped a six-game winless streak after winning their season-opener on Aug. 27.
• Cal and UPJ were playing at Windber Stadium due to heavy rainfall in the Johnstown area that deemed the scheduled grass field unplayable.
• The Vulcans previously earned a road win in the series with the Mountain Cats at Windber in 2024.
• Cal and UPJ were scoreless at the break despite the teams combining for 14 shot attempts with eight on goal.
• The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead at the 63:30-mark when freshman
Ryan Moessner recorded his third goal of the season.
• Cal added to its lead in the 69th minute when junior
Jaime Marcelo Espinosa collected his team-leading fourth goal with assists from junior
