California falls to No. 20 Gannon

Espinosa scores team-leading sixth goal; Golden Knights score six goals on 11 shots

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 30) – Facing one of the highest scoring offenses in the country, the California (PA) men's soccer team suffered a 6-1 loss against No. 20 Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility on Wednesday evening.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (3-4-3, 2-1) were on a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-2) before the contest.
• Gannon entered play as the league leader and ranked fourth in the country with 3.00 goals per game.
• The Golden Knights have scored a combined 15 goals in its last two games.
• Gannon raced out to a 3-0 lead by the 12th minute after scoring all three goals in a span of just over three minutes, including two goals by Rafa Hyde.
• The Golden Knights later took a 4-0 advantage into the break after scoring again at the 29:35-mark.
• Cal avoided the shutout in the 59th minute when junior Jaime Marcelo Espinosa scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
• The Golden Knights scored again in the 71st minute when Per Kristi Lauvsad added his second goal of the contest.
• Gannon posted the final goal on a penalty kick with under 90 seconds left to play.
• The Vulcans finished with a 17-11 shot advantage while placing just four attempts on target.
• Gannon held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Junior Justin Brink posted a single save in the first half, while freshman Luke Rubican made his college debut and played the final 45 minutes.

• The Vulcans are idle for a week before traveling to face Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.
