CALIFORNIA (Sept. 19) – In its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-opener, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to defending-league champion Millersville on Wednesday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Complex.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 2-4 overall with a 0-1 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Marauders improve to 4-2 this season and open league action with a 1-0 record. Millersville has now won the last five meetings against Cal U, including victories in the PSAC and NCAA Tournament last season.
After a scoreless first period, Cal U took a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute when sophomore
Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Marauders evened the score less than 10 minutes later when senior Matt Kadoch scored at the 73:07-mark. Millersville recorded the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, as Ryan Rohrer tallied a breakaway goal off a pass from Andrew Dukes.
Sophomore
Shane Donovan (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) finished with a career-high six saves in the loss. Marauders sophomore Brad Benzing earned the win after posting two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Cal U continues league play on Saturday, Sept. 22, when it travels to face West Chester at 2:30 p.m.
