With the split, the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team moves to 22-14 overall. The Vulcans are now tied with defending-PSAC Champion Mercyhurst for first place in the divisional standings with a 10-4 mark. Meanwhile, Lock Haven now stands at 13-22-1 this season behind a 7-11 record in league play.

In Game 1, Petty improved to 7-1 this season after yielding just one run (earned) on four hits with no walks in 7.0 innings (80 pitches). He recorded five strikeouts while tossing his team-leading fifth complete game of the season. Bald Eagles' starter David Masteller (4-4) was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs (all earned) on six hits and four walks in 6.0 innings (103 pitches).

Lock Haven manufactured a run in the top of the first before Cal U tied the game in the third, 1-1. Senior catcher JB Sapienza (La Plata, Md./La Plata) opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After another walk, Petty lined a single into center field that allowed Sapienza to score from second.

In the fourth, the Vulcans took a 2-1 lead on a pair of singles. Senior second baseman Kyle Bowser (Stoystown, Pa./North Star) led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a pair of ground-outs. After Sapienza drew another walk, sophomore right fielder John Orr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) delivered a two-out RBI single through the right side. Cal U added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to increase its lead to 4-1. Following a Petty double, Bowser lined an RBI double down the right-field line before scoring on an RBI single up the middle by junior first baseman AJ Robinson (Milesburg, Pa./Bald Eagle).

Bowser and Petty each posted multi-hit games, combining for four of the team's six hits. Bowser also scored twice in the victory over the Bald Eagles.

In the nightcap, junior Kyle Thomas (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) suffered the loss after allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits and two walks in 5.2 innings (99 pitches). Lock Haven's Nick Cummings (2-4) earned the win after yielding one run (earned) on five hits and no walks in 7.0 innings (86 pitches).

The Bald Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the third on a pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt before the Vulcans countered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, 1-1. After back-to-back infield singles, Cal U executed a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position before Petty scored on a sacrifice fly.

Lock Haven broke the tie in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits and one error. With two outs and runners on first and second, left fielder Scott Zuback stole third and scored on a throwing error to third. The Bald Eagles capitalized on the momentum, as the next four batters reached base safely to stretch the lead to 6-1.

Petty finished with his team-leading 14th multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with one run scored while playing right field.

Cal U continues its weekend series tomorrow, Saturday, April 14, when it travels to Lock Haven for a doubleheader, starting at 1 pm.
