SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 10) – Freshman Clarissa Enslin (Dalview, South Africa/St. Andrews School for Girls) earned All-America honors and tied the school record in the 200 freestyle on Thursday and the Vulcans broke three school records on the second day of the NCAA Division II Championships at the Palo Alto Natatorium.

Enslin finished in seventh place in the finals of the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1 minute, 51.64 seconds to earn All-America honors. She is the sixth different swimmer in school history to post an All-America finish at the NCAA Championships. In the preliminaries, Enslin placed fifth after tying the school-record time of 1:50.59 set by Ester Bosh at the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

A night after winning the national title in the 50 freestyle, junior Melissa Gates (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) improved her school-best time as the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay. On Thursday, the four-time All-American touched the wall in a remarkable 22.70 seconds, which is two-hundredths of a second faster than her record time last night and only six-hundredths shy of the national record set in 2009.

Behind Gates' record start, the Vulcans posted a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.54. The performance broke the previous school record set at the 2009 PSAC Championships by over one-tenth of a second. Gates led off the relay in 22.70 seconds, sophomore Caitlyn Sirkoch (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) split 24.36 on the second leg, freshman Stephanie Bolt (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) split 24.46 on the third leg and Enslin anchored in 23.03 seconds as the relay earned All-America Honorable Mention.

Sophomore Georgia Emert (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) broke her own school record in the 400 IM by over three seconds on Thursday, touching the wall in 4:29.63 during the preliminaries. She later received All-America Honorable Mention in the finals by finishing 16th overall at 4:32.77.

The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Friday, March 11, when they compete in the 500 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay.
