PITTSBURGH (Feb. 5) – The Vulcans concluded the regular season at Trees Pool on Saturday afternoon while competing against Carnegie Mellon, Clarion, Grove City and the host Panthers.
Junior
Melissa Gates (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors on Tuesday, won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.38 seconds. She won the 15-swimmer event by just under three-tenths of a second over the top finisher from Pitt. The 5-9 junior added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke after touching the wall in 2 minutes, 28.30 seconds, placing behind only a swimmer from the Panthers.
Freshman
Clarissa Enslin (Dalview, South Africa/St. Andrews School for Girls) was victorious in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:53.35 to edge a Pitt swimmer by 46-hundredths of a second.

Jess Machmer (Canton, Pa./Canton) and Gates finished third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.76. In the 200 medley relay, the group of sophomore
Kasey Travitz (Millersburg, Pa./Millersburg), Gates, Machmer and Enslin touched the wall in 1:48.64 to finish fourth.
Freshman
Stephanie Bolt (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) claimed a fourth-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:56.37. Travitz was the second-highest NCAA Division II finisher in the 100 backstroke after posting a time of 1:02.53.
The Vulcans are idle for over a week before competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships from Feb. 17-20 in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Last year, Cal U finished fifth at the annual championships.
