No. 9 Vulcans win in OT at Bloomsburg, 2-1

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 18)- Senior Brady Sanders (Level Green, Pa. / Penn-Trafford) scored his first game-winning goal of the season in 102nd minute on Tuesday afternoon, as the No. 9 Vulcans posted a 2-1 double-overtime win at Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 10-1-4 overall with a 5-1-1 mark in league play. The Vulcans also move into first place in the league standings with 16 points entering the final two weekends of the regular season. Meanwhile, the Huskies drop to 5-8-1 this season behind a 3-4-1 record in conference action.

Sanders gave the Vulcans a 1-0 lead just seconds before the end of the first period at the 44:51-mark off an assist from freshman Djamel Boudhar (Stuggart, Germany/Oscar-Partet), his fourth of the year. Bloomsburg rallied to tie the game in the 88th minute on a header by sophomore Fran Miller off a feed from freshman Nate Conrad, 1-1.

In the first overtime, both teams managed one corner kick and were held without a shot attempt. Sanders then recorded his second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, less than two minutes into the second overtime with an assist from junior Paul Silvestrone (Vaughan, Ontario/Cardinal Center).

Redshirt senior Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) collected his 10th win of the season after making one save in over 100 minutes of action. Huskies' Bernie Roell made six saves in the losing effort and was issued a yellow card after allowing the game-winning goal.

For the game, Cal U out-shot Bloomsburg by a 13-4 margin with an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Vulcans also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks on Tuesday.
