HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Oct. 11) – Facing one of the perennial powerhouses in NCAA Division III, the Vulcans rallied to a 3-2 victory (18-25, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25, 15-12) against No. 11 Juniata after losing the first two sets on Tuesday night at the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center.
With its fifth-straight win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 19-3 overall. In less than a week, the Vulcans have twice rallied from a 0-2 deficit to win a match in five sets. Juniata, who won the NCAA National Championship in 2004 and 2006, falls to 16-6 this season.
Sophomore
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) recorded her sixth double-double of the season against the Golden Eagles by tallying 17 kills and 14 digs. Juniors
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) added 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Franz also finished with three service aces and five blocks, while Wilson posted seven blocks in the win.
Sophomore
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) established a career high with 36 assists and added a double-double with 13 digs. Fellow setter
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) collected 15 assists, eight kills and seven blocks on Tuesday.
Senior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) posted a team-high 21 digs and junior
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) finished with 18 digs and seven kills at Juniata.
The Vulcans return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a two-game weekend road trip, beginning Friday, Oct. 14, against defending-league champion Clarion at 7 p.m.
