Vulcans fall at Duquesne in dual meet

Results

PITTSBURGH (Jan. 22) – The Vulcans collected eight victories (six individual, two relay), including a pair of wins from junior Melissa Gates (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and freshman Clarissa Enslin (Dalview, South Africa/St. Andrews School for Girls), in a 146-119 dual loss to Duquesne on Saturday afternoon at Towers Pool.

Gates won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.17 seconds, over 1.3 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Duquesne. The 5-9 junior also earned the victory in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall in 1 minute, 7.09 seconds.

Gates and Enslin were also members of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, which posted victories at Towers Pool. In the 200 medley relay, sophomore Kasey Travitz (Millersburg, Pa./Millersburg), Gates, freshman Jess Machmer (Canton, Pa./Canton) and Enslin won the event by nearly two seconds after touching the wall in 1:49.78.

Enslin, freshman Kelsey Nuhfer (Warren, Pa./Warren), freshman Stephanie Bolt (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) and Gates captured the victory in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.36.

As an individual, Enslin posted wins in the 100 freestyle (54.23 seconds) and 200 freestyle (2:00.41).

Bolt also earned the win the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:45.17, while sophomore Georgia Emert (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) posted a time of 5:21.79 to win the 500 freestyle.

Cal U returns to action on Jan. 28-29 when it hosts the Vulcan Dual Meet Challenge Invitational at Hamer Hall.
