Vulcans drop two at Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Sept. 11) - The Vulcans closed the Northern Kentucky Tournament on Saturday by dropping a pair of contests to host Northern Kentucky and Wisconsin-Parkside.

The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team (2-6) opened the day with a 3-2 loss (14-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 10-15) to the host Norse before losing to the Rangers, 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 23-25).

Against Northern Kentucky, sophomores Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) led the team with 10 kills while classmate Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) posted 27 assists. Junior Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) posted a team-high 13 digs, while senior Arica Smith (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) added 10 digs.

In the match versus Wisconsin-Parkside, sophomore Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) and Fromknecht paced the team with 10 kills each and Franz and Harris added seven kills apiece. Junior Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) set-up her teammates to the tune of 23 assists and Fromknecht posted a double-double by tallying 11 assists. McMullen contributed 14 digs and junior Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) collected seven digs.

Cal U returns to action next weekend with a combined four PSAC Crossover matches at East Stroudsburg and Lock Haven.
