SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 8) – Despite six different players posting multi-hit games, the Vulcans suffered a 13-11 loss to Concord (W.Va.), a NCAA Tournament qualifier last year, on Monday at the Savannah Invitational.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team falls to 4-4 this season.
Sophomore center fielder
Troy Handza (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and senior right fielder
Sam DiMatteo (Center, Pa./Center) each belted four hits against the Mountain Lions. Handza belted his second homer of the season (fourth of his career), while DiMatteo collected four RBI and a steal.
Junior designated hitter
Chuck Faust (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) posted three hits and three RBI, while junior
Adam Links (New Hope, Pa./Central Bucks East), sophomore
Anthony Lamont (Clinton, Pa. / South Side Beaver) and freshman
Evan King (Lancaster, Pa Lampeter-Strasburg) all added two hits.
As a team, the Vulcans collected 18 hits.
Senior
Ryan Lavrusky (Temple Terrace, Fla./King/Waynesburg) suffered the loss (0-2) after allowing six earned runs in 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and four walks.
