SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 7) – Freshman left-handed pitcher Tyler Zimm (Fayetteville, W.Va./Oak Hill) tossed 7.0-shutout innings in his first career start on Sunday to help lead the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team to a 10-4 victory over West Liberty at the Savannah Invitational.

With the win, the Vulcans complete the three-game sweep over the Hilltoppers and improve to 4-3 this season.

Zimm (1-0) made his first career start while celebrating his 18th birthday on Sunday and allowed only two hits in 7.0-scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Junior Chuck Faust (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) led the offensive attack for Cal U, finishing with four hits and three RBI behind a two-run homer (fifth of his career). In the win, sophomore center field Troy Handza (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and senior right fielder Sam DiMatteo (Center, Pa./Center) both added three RBI and Handza collected a pair of hits.

After leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with 126 stolen bases last year, the Vulcans added five steals in the nine-inning victory against the Hilltoppers.

Cal U continues play at the Savannah Invitational tomorrow, Monday, March 8, when it faces Concord (W.Va.) at 10 a.m.
