CALIFORNIA (Oct. 19) – Facing the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss (22-25, 17-25, 16-25) to Juniata (Pa.) on Tuesday night at Hamer Hall.
With its second-straight defeat, the Vulcans drop to 16-9 overall this season. The loss marked only the second for Cal U at Hamer Hall since the start of the 2006 season, a stretch spanning 61 matches. Meanwhile, the Eagles improve to 24-3 this year and will now play three of the top five teams in Division III this weekend.
Junior
Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) posted a team-high 10 kills, while sophomore
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) added eight kills in the loss. Junior setter
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) directed the offense with 18 digs, while senior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the defensive effort with 12 digs. Sophomore
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) collected four (two solo) of the team's six blocks against Juniata.
Cal U returns to conference play this weekend when it hosts a pair of league matches at Hamer Hall, beginning Friday, Oct. 22, against Slippery Rock at 7 p.m.
