MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 12) –The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered its second-straight loss, dropping a 2-1 contest in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at Millersville on Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 7-4-2 overall with a 1-4-2 conference mark. Earlier in the day, Cal U was ranked fifth in the initial NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings of 2010. Meanwhile, the Marauders improve to 7-3-1 this season behind a 3-2-0 record in league play.
Millersville took an early 1-0 lead when freshman Andrew Dukes tallied his team-leading ninth goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. The remainder of the first half was a defensive struggle, as the teams combined for only five total shot attempts in the first period.
Following a physical first 45 minutes, the Vulcans were issued three yellow cards in the first 20-plus minutes of the second period. The Marauders expanded their lead at the 71:51-mark when junior Aaron Roland scored on header following a corner kick from classmate Pat Baffuto, 2-0. Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) collected a pair of saves in 90 minutes. Millersville's Matt Langione registered six saves on 11 shot attempts.
The Vulcans actually out-shot the Marauders by an 11-7 margin and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. The two teams were whistled for a combined 30 fouls and issued five total yellow cards, all in the second half.
