ELKINS, W.Va. (March 27) – After having two games postponed due to weather earlier this week, the Vulcans managed a split of their road doubleheader at Davis & Elkins College on Friday, winning the opener 10-3 before falling 8-7 in the nightcap.
With the split, the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team now holds an 18-7 overall record.
In Game 1, seniors
Shayne Busti (Crucible, Pa./Carmichaels) and
Mike Schmidt (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), along with sophomore
Adam Links (New Hope, Pa./Central Bucks East) all belted homers. Senior
Jon Selby (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) collected a pair of hits and stolen bases, while sophomores
Chuck Faust (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and
Aaron Ordy (Butler, Pa./Butler) each added two hits.
Junior
Ryan Lavrusky (Temple Terrace, Fla./King/Waynesburg) earned his third win of the season, throwing five innings.
Busti posted his fourth homer of the year in the Game 2, while Links and freshman
Troy Handza (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) each collected three hits. Schmidt added a pair of doubles, while Handza added two stolen bases.
Senior
Jon Squeglia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) suffered the loss and falls to 4-2 on the season.
The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, March 31, when they host Ohio Valley University (W.Va.) at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, Pa., at 2 p.m.
