da Silva earns PSAC West weekly laurel

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 27) – California University of Pennsylvania senior setter Renata da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Vulcans to a 3-0 record on the road last weekend with league wins over Edinboro and Gannon.

da Silva engineered the Cal U offense with 11.20 assists per set and added 2.10 digs per set. She also registered 13 kills and four blocks in the 10 sets over the weekend.

A two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, she opened the week with 45 assists, eight digs and four kills in a 3-1 victory at Edinboro. da Silva then posted 33 assists, eight digs, six kills and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep over Gannon. The native of Brazil closed the weekend with 34 assists, five digs and three kills against Findlay (Ohio).

For the season, da Silva has totaled 732 assists for an average of 11.36 assists per set despite missing most of three weeks due to an injury. She also is averaging 2.12 digs, 0.89 kills and 0.40 blocks in 19 matches this year.

da Silva has received PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors three times in her career. She opened her senior season as the Vulcans' all-time leader in assists and now is only two assists shy of reaching the 5,000-career assist plateau.
