CALIFORNIA (Oct. 10) – Behind a first-period goal by senior forward
Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), the Vulcans extended their win streak to seven games with a 1-0 victory over Shippensburg at Roadman Park on Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play. The contest marked the annual Alumni and Dunlevy Day for the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team.
With the victory, Cal U moves to 10-3 overall this year with a 6-1 mark in home games. Meanwhile, Shippensburg falls to 0-8-4 overall this season.
The Vulcans scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute when Luecke tallied a goal off an assist from junior
Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo), who now leads the team with seven assists after missing all but two games last year due to injury.
In the win, junior goalkeeper
Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) posted a season-high seven saves to record his second shutout of the season. Shippensburg's Clay Sale finished with three saves on 13 shot attempts.
Cal U held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots while both teams attempted five corner kicks.
