LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 9) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion on Tuesday, falling 1-0 in overtime on an 'own goal' against Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
Despite the loss, the Vulcans remain in first place in the PSAC West standings with four points and a 1-1-1 mark in divisional play. Overall, Cal U holds a 2-1-2 record.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through regulation before the Vulcans scored an 'own goal' almost two minutes into the overtime period, 91:59. The goal was set-up by a corner kick from Paul Huckett of the Bald Eagles.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park), the reigning PSAC West Player of the Week, suffered the loss in net after collecting three saves on nine shot attempts in almost 92 minutes of action. Lock Haven goalkeeper William Trimble earned the win after making five saves on 11 shots.
Cal U held a slight 11-9 advantage in terms of shots, while Lock Haven posted a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Vulcans return to non-divisional play with a 3 p.m. contest against the University of Charleston (W.Va.) at Roadman Park on Saturday, Sept. 13.
